Speaking for my own self, this series of 20 votes puts to rest any hope I had that Scott Brown might buck the R leadership in the Senate and actually vote like he had a mind of his own. Since my last update on Scott Brown, the Senate has had 20 votes. Thirteen of those votes passed. The bills Scott Brown voted against - mostly passed anyway. And the bills Scott Brown voted for, mostly failed. There were two exceptions:

Helped by the Republican Minority, the Senate passed bill #42 with 41R + 18D = 59 votes
And the Republican Minority rejected Senate bill #36 with 37R + 13D = 50 votes
Sen. Brown voted with the Republican Minority on both these bills.

On 7 bills the Senate either Passed or Confirmed with anywhere from 78 to 100 votes. On these bills Sen. Brown voted with the overwhelming Majority.

One Bill- #45- failed because it required a 3/5th majority, Scott Brown's NO vote helped this Bill fail.

The 10 remaining bills either passed or were rejected with Sen. Brown voting against the Majority every time. Like an up-down arrow when the Majority said NAY, Scott Brown said YEA. Scott Brown voted NAY when the Majority voted YEA.

Scott Brown voted FOR - Majority Democrats Voted NO - These Motions Rejected:
#31- Motion to Waive CBA Bunning Amdt. No. 3355; In the nature of a substitute.
#33- Motion to Waive CBA Thune Amdt No. 3338, As Further Amended; To create additional tax relief for businesses, and for other purposes.
#35- Motion to Waive Sec. 403 of S.Con.Res. 13 re: Burr Amdt. No. 3390.; To provide an emergency benefit of $250 to seniors, veterans, and persons with disabilities in 2010 to compensate for the lack of cost-of-living adjustment for such year, to provide an offset using unobligated stimulus funds, and for other purposes.
#40- On the Motion (Motion to Waive Section 403, S. Con. Res. 13, 111th Congress, Brown (MA) Amdt. No. 3391 ) To provide for a 6-month employee payroll tax rate cut, and for other purposes.
#41- On the Motion (Motion to Waive All Applicable Budgetary Discipline re: Burr Amdt. No. 3389 ) To provide Federal reimbursement to State and local governments for a limited sales, use, and retailers' occupation tax holiday, and to offset the cost of such reimbursements.

#48- On Passage of the Bill (H.R. 4213 As Amended ) A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to extend certain expiring provisions, and for other purposes.


Scott Brown voted NO - Rejected with 37 Republican votes and 13 Democratic votes:

Who Is Scott Brown?

There seems to be some confusion about Scott Brown’s political ties. According to the Massachusetts Secretary of State election guide Scott Brown is a Republican. However, Liz Sidoti and Jennifer Haberkorn seem to think Brown is an independent - WATCH Washington Journal Jan. 25, 2010. Brown did not garner much Republican support early on. Maybe he did not know the Washington R-leadership well enough to ask.

Which would be a good deal for the rest of us. If Brown doesn’t feel beholden to the R-leadership he might have the guts to remain his own man when it comes to casting his Senate vote. I will watch to see if Scott Brown is who he isn’t saying he is, or the man he told the voters he would be when he got to Washington.

The Senate is a partisan world unto itself, a self-reliant R. in the Senate will be a lonely man. Already R-occupied space is filled by men and women who only know one game, follow the leader. How will Brown get along with rudderless men and women? What will he do when Grover comes calling? Will Scott Brown give up his firm-minded convictions in return for legislative fellowship? A self-governing Brown might have to go home after his first week and lock himself in his basement to have a good cry. A sneaky Brown will have a good laugh.

We all need to watch this guy. If it is true that his campaign will serve as a template for the Republican party that could mean more surreptitious candidates will be making their way to the winners podium next fall. Wait and watch. And learn from the Massachusetts voters mistake if Brown goes all red-state on his constituents.
