Get in the back seat cause we won't let you drive!
If you could ask my husband he would tell you that I can not draw. You should see some of the pathetic attempts I’ve made when I try to show Bill something I’d like him to build for me.
Despite my lack of artistic talent, sometimes when I am reading a news item, a picture will form in my minds eye about the subject matter. Such a thing happened when I read an article that told about the Republican plans for taking over Congress. In my minds eye, I saw a picture of our President standing alone against the conservative Republicans.
We just can’t let that happen!
We can not leave President Obama alone to face his opponents.
We D’s must vote for an even stronger team to back up the President we elected.
I hope Democratic and Independent voters give the R’s a new message.

I Will Vote A Straight Democratic Ticket
It is especially important to vote Democratic this year because:
1. Give our team more time to accomplish what they set out to do. The economic numbers are just starting to edge upward. The way I see it, a change in leadership means time lost while the new guy gets up to speed. AND, the battle about repealing our state income tax - come on - that will take months to settle, meantime, nothing positive will happen. Our state lawmakers will be stuck in the ditch and progress will come to a grinding halt.
2. Redistricting - I hope for results we can ALL live with. And I believe we have a better chance for that to happen if Ted Strickland is leading the discussion. I respect his judgment and his inclination to listen to all sides.
Just so you know, I do not always vote a straight ticket. For instance, I always voted for George Voinovich no matter what position he was seeking. This year, he isn't running. He has decided to do other things. I wish him well whatever he does and I thank him for his hard work in behalf of Ohio citizens. So.....

1st things 1st - feed pets then blog
today kind of sucks so far.
As I was reading this article, my cats, geese, and doggie kept pestering me to give them their morning feed. Which is my own fault because I got them accustomed to being fed first thing. Get the pets out of the way then the rest of the day will be clear sailing is my theory. First, the cats kept running in the house every time I stepped outside. Which meant I had to turn around and go find the kitty before I could get on with whatever it was I had intended to do. It was my plan to turn the geese and chickens out and feed them later, (because I had this delicious NY Times article to read and digest ) but the geese were having none of that. The geese came up to the house and stood around at the fence squawking and otherwise exhibiting their peckish attitude. Doggie, Hannah, is under the table pawing my knee every few seconds to insure that I don't forget about her meal.
When I did get to read the article, I was struck by some of the training suggestions - as in - Look for houses with flags, they are instructed; their residents tend to be patriotic conservatives.
My flag flies because in my home we are patriotic Americans. In fact, if being a tea party conservative means I have to be indoctrinated by the likes of Dick Armey and his flunky stooge trainers I'll pass. What a joke the so called independent tea party is.

Senate Race - VERY Important in Ohio
A little bit of Ohio history:
John Glenn was first elected to be our Democratic Senator in 1974. In 1976 he was joined by fellow Democrat Howard M. Metzenbaum in the Senate chambers. These two served together until Metzenbaum lost his reelection bid to Mike DeWine in 1994. In 1998, Glenn retired and our former governor, George Voinovich won the seat. DeWine and Voinovich served together until DeWine lost his reelection bid to Sherrod Brown in 2006. Now, because Voinovich is retiring the seat is up for grabs and our Lt. Governor, Lee Fisher, wants it.
However, some folks seem to think Lee Fisher's campaign is in trouble. This article on Politico mentions a cash shortage compared to his Republican opponent.
I can speak to that because I had a problem with Fisher's website donation page a few weeks back. I emailed the campaign about the problem though I never heard back from the campaign and Fisher didn't get my money. I tried a second time to donate from the online page and got confused by the number of URL's my browser went through. I'm jackrabbit jumpy about spending my money online so when I did not recognize a URL I closed the page.
Today, I downloaded a form I can fill out and send in with a check.
That said, I hope Fisher gets it together soon. As I see it, the conservative Republicans in the Senate only want to cause trouble and block the Democratic administration. I'd like for Ohio to have the honor of electing a 60th Democrat to the Senate. You can read more about Fisher's campaign troubles here and here.

Yes We Should Vote Democratic Again!
The difference between 2009 Republican and 2006 Democratic obstructionism is the Democrats were using the filibuster after 6 years of Republican wars, lies, and excessive spending. The voters approved of the Democratic filibuster tactic because we knew Republicans and Bush had to be stopped.
Simple truth. This filibuster tactic is a perfect example of the Republican failure to take voters serious. Happens all the time with Republican and conservatives. Nobody counts except those who vote with or for Republican and conservatives. (Even if they do pretend to speak for all Americans when they climb on their soap box. Why don’t they just say ‘those who vote for me want’ blah blah blah?) Except for the filibuster tactic, the CHANGE 69,498,215 citizens voted for could have happened. President Obama has demonstrated his sincere desire to work with Republicans to the point of losing one vote in the Senate. I’m pretty sure that was an unintended consequence.
Republicans do not respect how angry 69,498,215 voters can be because the CHANGE we voted for is not happening. Think Scarlett O’Hara pounding the ground vowing to rebuild Tara. In the ‘08 election 69,498,215 voters hoped to rebuild America when they voted for Obama. And I am one who believes 69,498,215 voters will not give up easy.
Many of us will have an opportunity to replace a Republican Senator with a Democratic candidate and yes we should. I have a chance to vote for a Democratic Senator here in Ohio to replace retiring Republican George Voinovich - and that is exactly what I will do. I support Lee Fisher in the Democratic Primary.
5 seats now held by a Republican or conservative could go blue for the Democrats.

George Voinovich - retiring - Ohio
Jim Bunning - retiring - Kentucky
Chris Bond - retiring - Missouri
Sam Brownback - retiring - Kansas

Who Is Scott Brown?
There seems to be some confusion about Scott Brown’s political ties. According to the Massachusetts Secretary of State election guide Scott Brown is a Republican. However, Liz Sidoti and Jennifer Haberkorn seem to think Brown is an independent - WATCH Washington Journal Jan. 25, 2010. Brown did not garner much Republican support early on. Maybe he did not know the Washington R-leadership well enough to ask.
Which would be a good deal for the rest of us. If Brown doesn’t feel beholden to the R-leadership he might have the guts to remain his own man when it comes to casting his Senate vote. I will watch to see if Scott Brown is who he isn’t saying he is, or the man he told the voters he would be when he got to Washington.
The Senate is a partisan world unto itself, a self-reliant R. in the Senate will be a lonely man. Already R-occupied space is filled by men and women who only know one game, follow the leader. How will Brown get along with rudderless men and women? What will he do when Grover comes calling? Will Scott Brown give up his firm-minded convictions in return for legislative fellowship? A self-governing Brown might have to go home after his first week and lock himself in his basement to have a good cry. A sneaky Brown will have a good laugh.
We all need to watch this guy. If it is true that his campaign will serve as a template for the Republican party that could mean more surreptitious candidates will be making their way to the winners podium next fall. Wait and watch. And learn from the Massachusetts voters mistake if Brown goes all red-state on his constituents.
